Developing of competences: creativity, fine motor skills, imagination
Duration: 60–90 min.
Get to know the artwork of the world-famous Ukrainian artist Maria Prymachenko and develop your imagination!
The most prominent theme of the artist’s work is fantastic animals. You cannot see them in a zoo, but may encounter in fairy-tales or your dreams. We will look at the artwork on display and analyse the artist’s compositions. During the practice evolution you will create compositions from pre-designed elements combined with those of your own design.
Each age group will be offered to try out the techniques that meet their education needs best.
- Kindergarten groups and pupils of younger primary grades will use colour paper and paint to design collages and decorate them in a variety of ornaments and patterns.
- Pupils of elder primary and of middle school grades will try out a popular-with-teenagers technique of aerosol spraying. During practice stage, pupils will not only use prepared stencils, but will design their own cutouts. After producing a graffiti on paper in bright colours, they will enrich it by drawing details.
- Smaller groups (up to 15 pupils) will be offered a more complex technique of a cardboard cut. Pupils will print their works using a printing press, and will enrich their compositions in colour ornaments using acrylic markers.
On the backside of her works the artist left a short description of every animal. At the end of the practice, we will put on an exhibition of created work.
The pupils will tell the titles of their compositions and will describe what superpowers their fantastic animals possess. The activity will end in a reflection exercise.

Age: education for kindergarten, pre-school, primary and school years 5–12 groups
Developing of competences: creativity, fine motor skills, imagination
Duration: 60–90 min.
How do you design a symmetrical composition? Prymachenko’s symmetry in paintings came from her favourite embroidery work. The artist’s mother, just like the painter herself, was a famous embroiderer, known far beyond the village of Bolotnya, where they lived. Maria designed and sewed clothing, she was skilled in the Ukrainian needlework and decorated shirts in floral patterns. In her paintings we can see parallels with the motif of the tree of life used in Lithuanian furniture decoration. At this workshop pupils will design a contemporary interpretation of a symmetrical composition on a piece of paper or cloth. The activity will offer inclusive techniques engaging for contemporary children and youth:
- Kindergarten groups and younger primary school pupils will design compositions of geometric forms in colour chalk and crayons.
- Pupils of elder primary and above will be offered to try out a popular- with-teenagers technique of aerosol spraying. During practice stage, pupils will not only use prepared stencils, but will design and cut their own, original ones. After producing a graffiti on paper in bright colours, they will enrich it with drawn details.
- Smaller groups (up to 15 pupils) will be offered a more complex technique of cardboard cut. Pupils will print their works using a press, and will enrich their compositions colour ornaments using acrylic markers.
After a group exhibition of created work, we will have a period of reflection.
