The Lithuanian National Museum of Art (LNMA) is one of the largest national art museums in Lithuania, with a mission to preserve artistic heritage and highlight its importance in making a positive impact on people’s everyday lives. The LNMA aims to be a source of inspiration, creating an inclusive environment for interaction, emotional wellbeing, and learning about oneself and the world. This is based on the belief that art is a value with enormous educational potential, providing the joy of knowledge and a sense of the meaning of life.

Founded in 1933, the museum is distinguished by its rich collection of fine arts, comprising around 260,000 exhibits, including historical and contemporary art, applied and folk art, rare amber and jewellery specimens, as well as other museum objects. The collection is the core of the LNMA and its activities. It is systematically and consistently expanded to include artefacts of significance to Lithuanian and world culture.

The LNMA consists of eleven departments situated in Vilnius, Klaipėda, Palanga, and Juodkrantė, including nine museums and galleries, as well as two national competence centres.

In addition to collecting, conserving, researching, and promoting the works in its collection, the LNMA also plays an active role in organising around seventy to eighty exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad each year. The LNMA’s cultural events and educational activities are designed to increase public and cultural awareness of the arts, improve the infrastructure for social services, and create a better atmosphere for cultural experiences in a variety of ways for different age and interest groups.

In addition, the LNMA restores and preserves artworks at the newly renovated and well-equipped Pranas Gudynas Conservation Centre, and provides digitisation services to all Lithuanian museums at the Lithuanian Museums’ Centre for Information, Digitisation, and LIMIS.
